Gewang-gewang at Binalayan Festival

Angeluz I. Ocampo

This photo is the celebration of the Feast of Sta. Ursula in Binangonan, Rizal.  The celebration takes every 21st day of October. Some called it “Pista ng Lawa” or “Binalayan Festival”. The people carry the image of Sta. Ursula while dancing. In Binangonan, we call it “gewang-gewang”. I chose this picture because it shows how they adore or how “panata” the people are. This was taken 3 years ago when we can celebrate Fiesta like this.

The people show their Catholicism. Most of Filipinos are Catholics. Catholics adore not only God or Jesus but also the Saints. The feast day of the Patron Saint of their Church usually became a festive celebration here in our country. It also shows the value of hospitality because of inviting guests to celebrate with them.
