The Great Festivals of the Province of Rizal

Under the UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, there is a need to develop and apply any safeguarding measures. The involvement of the community in safeguarding is very important as they are the ones who create, carry, and transmit ICH (UNESCO, 2009). Hence, performance or event-based cultural heritage such as festivals may likely be at risk of being lost over time if not properly transmitted and preserved.

This online exhibition contains a collection of photographs and narratives about festivals through oral history, and aims with the following:  showcase the different festivals in the Province of Rizal; analyze the values that associate with different festivals in the lives of the participants, who originated from Rizal and have a first-hand experience in their local festivals; and to compile at least a part of the oral history of festivals in the Province of Rizal to serve as supplement to existing records pertaining to their histories.
